Those horrific, exhausting, refereeing days of summer

I seem to recall hearing something about those lazy, hazy, something-something days of summer...

This is a myth, right? Someone just made that up because it sounded nice in a song.

Am I the only one who spends the entire school year looking forward to these amazing days of summer, where we will play all day with our kids and relax in the sunshine, drinking lemonade? Why do I torture myself with this fantasy, when the exact opposite has been true every summer?

The first week or two is wonderful. We enjoy each other's company, we sleep in, we stay up late, we wake up excitedly asking "What are we going to do today?" And we either do something super awesome, or we do nothing, but either way it feels GREAT, because it's not the madness of the school year.

We have officially hit that point where we aren't just having fun anymore.

We're tired of sharing, we're tired of playing in the backyard, we're tired of helping, we're tired of the food we have in the house... but most of all, I am tired.

I'm tired of trying to overhaul the house but still drowning in mess. I'm tired of being the referee. I'm tired of the CONSTANT bickering and competition. I know they are brothers, but OH MY GOD MAKE IT STOP.

Perhaps I will start a game of hide and seek and I will be it...

  1. Roll out those lazy, hazy, CRAZY days of summer . . .
